Incisionless Revisional Weight Loss Surgery Print E-mail
Have you regained the weight you originally lost after Gastric Bypass Surgery? Do you feel less full during meals? Could you eat much larger portions than anticipated after surgery? Have you lost less excess body weight than expected?

If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, you may be a good candidate for incisionless revisional surgery. We now offer two incisionless procedures – StomaphyX and the ROSE procedure – that can help you get back on track with your weight loss.

Why do patients sometimes regain weight after gastric bypass?

Your stomach pouch or stoma (the connection between the pouch and small intestine) may have stretched out in the years since your original surgery, reducing the feeling of fullness after you eat. As a result, you may be eating more and regaining weight. Fortunately, revisional procedures we offer can be used to correct these situations without the need for major additional surgery.

What is incisionless surgery, and what are the benefits and risks?

Unlike traditional laparoscopic revisional procedures that require several small incisions made in your abdomen, incisionless surgery can be performed through the esophagus and mouth, while the weight loss patient is under anesthesia, without the need for an incision. As a result, incisionless surgery is less invasive, essentially painless, and allows for reduced hospital stay and recovery time. Please note that traditional surgery is still required for extreme cases. In addition, as with any surgery there are risks involved, and the long-term safety record has not yet been established for the new ROSE procedure.

Who is a good candidate?

You may be a good candidate for revisional surgery if:
  • You have either regained weight or not lost enough, and/or have lost that feeling of restriction after a meal, and can now eat too much and eat too fast, AND
  • Evaluation of your gastric pouch and opening to the small intestine (stoma) reveals that one or both are enlarged (dilated).

StomaphyX

The StomaphX™ is a remarkable new technology that can be used to re-tighten a gastric bypass, and improve the results of other bariatric operations, without "surgery." The goal of most weight loss operations is to cause the patient to feel "full" with smaller amounts of food. more>>

ROSE Procedure

Even the most successful bypass patients occasionally regain weight. New surgical technology now allows surgeons to treat one of the potential sources of this weight regain. The ROSE procedure (Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal) provides an incisionless surgical option to restore gastric bypass patients’ anatomy to closely match original post-surgery sizes. more>>
