High BMI Causes Gallstone Disease

Higher body mass index, a high fat diet and repeated efforts at weight loss have been well-known risk factors for formation of gallstones. Previously, there was no explanation for the association between excess weight and gallstones. A recent study, published in the medical journal Hepatology, has now reported that simply having an increased BMI causes gallstone disease. This recent study has shown that excess weight is, by itself, the cause.
